Eleanor Reily Handmade Soaps is the culmination of a life-long interest in natural products; sensitivity to chemical fragrances, dyes and preservatives; a need for creative expression, and a little boy who loves taking baths.

As long as I can remember, I have been extremely sensitive to most mass-produced soaps, bath products and cosmetics.  As a pre-teen I researched and experimented with home-made facial and hair treatments,  which began a far-reaching interest in all things natural.  When my son was a toddler, with a skin condition easily exacerbated by both chemical and environmental factors, I realized that there was a great need for something other than the fun, colorful, fragrant bath products we both loved.  I tried all types of soaps, body washes, etc., but was not convinced that I was providing either of us with the best products possible.  Having had much success with creating my own natural remedies and treatments, I turned my attention to soap making.

Concentrating first on my son's and other kids' likes, I decided on pure, unscented glycerin soap, which is extremely gentle and moisturizing.  Using different molds, natural colors and toys embedded into the soaps, we came up with several every-day and holiday varieties which he loves.  Turning my attention to my own adult preferences, I decided to use olive oil as a base, essential oils for their scents and therapeutic properties, and pure vegetable and mineral colorants.  Being aware of many other handmade, natural soaps being offered, I also decided to make my soaps beautiful, using artist-designed soap molds and luxurious wrappings such as tulle, satin ribbons and handmade Japanese papers. 

The result of these endeavors is a growing business based in Chicago, with a loyal customer base and the opportunity to share my experiences and vision with others who are looking for the best soaps available, made naturally and with an artistic flair.  I have learned a lot from my son, my family and my customers, and am continually striving to create products that equal my passion for being clean, green and naturally refreshed.
